The ionic conjugated polymers have been studied for the potential applications as ultrathin films of amphiphilic polyacetylenes, nanostructured silica hybrids, ordered multilayer nanocomposites, hybrid polymer gels, nanocrystalline CdS polymer sensitizer, and write-once-read-many-times (WORM) memory devices [3-5]. Here, we report the synthesis of a new ionic polyacetylene with trimellitic anhydride substituents by the catalyst-free polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine using the corresponding acid chloride. The resulting polymer showed a broad absorption band in the visible region up to 550 nm as well as ultraviolet region, whereas the PL maximum value was 537 nm. The cyclic voltamogram of polymer exhibited irreversible electrochemical behavior. The polymer had stable electrochemical window from -1.85 to 1.55V under consecutive scans. |
