The effect of devulcanizing agent on the cure characteristics and tensile properties of natural rubber vulcanizates |

De-Link R system is a new recycling technique which is used as devulcanizing agent. It is a mechano-chemical process that involves addition of De-Link R to the rubber particles in a banbury mixer. De-link R together with shear force during processing open up the sulfur crosslinks, which yield a formable mass of devulcanized rubber. In this study, the effect of De-Link R on the cure characteristics and tensile properties of natural rubber vulcanizates was investigated. Different amount of De-Link R was added on the base formulation of natural rubber compound. The cure characteristics and tensile properties were determined and correlated to the cross-link density. Results showed that increasing the De-Link R content on the compound increases the maximum torque, scorch time and cure time. However, the tensile strength and elongation at break decreases as De-Link R content increases. The modulus in 100% and 300% elongation increases as De-Link R content increases due to formation of new cross-link as also indicated in the increase of cross-link density. |
