Flame retardant is a substance that delays ignition and prevents expansion of combustion by adding a compound having flame retardancy such as halogen, phosphorus, nitrogen, or inorganic compound to polymers. Among them, while halogen-containing flame retardants are excellent in flame retardancy, environmental hazard problems are emerging and new flame retardants are being actively researched to replace them. Therefore, we synthesized a novel phosphorus-containing flame retardant (PFR) and then applied to engineering plastic to compare their thermal properties. The chemical structure of PFR was confirmed by H nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) and fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were performed to evaluate the thermal properties of PFR. The flame retardancy was also confirmed by limiting oxygen index (LOI) and vertical burning test (UL94). |
