Modified graphene oxide (ImGO) was developed by reacting o-phenylenediamine with graphene oxide (GO). ImGO was incorporated into poly[2,2'-(m-phenylene)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole] (m-PBI) to prepare PBI/ImGO composite membrane for high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFC). The PBI/ImGO composite membranes were prepared by solution casting method. The solution mixtures of m-PBI and ImGO in N,N-dimethylacetamide were cast with subsequent heating to 120oC. To investigate the effect of ImGO, prisitne GO composite membranes were also prepared by the same method. The resulting composite membranes exhibit improved membrane properties such as chemical stability and electrochemical properties compared to m-PBI. At 150oC and dehydrate condition, PBI/ImGO_0.5 showed increased proton conductivity of 77.52 mS cm-1. Therefore, PBI/ImGO composite membranes can be thought as a promising candidate for HT-PEMFC application. |
