A supramolecular gel formed by coordination of metal ion, typically Ni(II), with poly(2-hydroxyethyl-co-1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazolyl aspartamide) (PHEA-API) is reported. Ni(II)-mediated hydrogel, cross-linked by metal-ligand coordination, showed strong and versatile adhesive property on various different substrates including paper glass ceramics and metals, which was well-reflected in bulk adhesion strength in wet environment. In addition, self-healing behavior of the related gel in rheological analysis was also interestingly investigated. The soft and viscoelastic material described here has potential for a variety of industrial and biomedical applications such as tissue adhesive, sealant and smart drug delivery systems. |
