Crosslinking of virgin poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) (PMP) and PMP filled with poly(ethyleneco-vinyl alcohol) coated TiO2 (c-TiO2) nanoparticles was investigated. A solution mixing method was used as a means of preparing nanocomposites and their thermal, mechanical, and morphological studies were carried out. The crosslinking was initiated by electron beam (EB) irradiation applying dose ranging from 10 to 40 Mrad. The results obtained indicate that the c-TiO2 presence were not affected gel formation in the PMP matrix. EB-irradiation results in substantial decrease in melting and crystallization temperature, and thermal stability of PMP/c-TiO2 nanocomposites. However their mechanical properties, as measured by the tensile strength and hardness, was affected only marginally. |
