Marine fouling is the accumulation of micro and macro organisms on immersed surfaces which lead to economic, environmental problem. Also, fouling lead to increased frictional resistance which results in loss of speed or increased fuel consumption of up to 40%. In order to reduce the fuel loss of the vessel, this study developed SPC resins for fuel saving antifouling paints using Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) having a drag-reduction effect. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been used as a drag-reduction additive in the pipeline and there were researches of proving the drag-reduction effect of that. In this study, we synthesized SPC resins for fuel saving antifouling paints using Si-acrylate, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and various monomer. The SPC structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed using FT-IR spectroscopy. Also, we checked drag-reduction properties by frictional resistance measure dynamometer. |
