Through long-term operation in harsh conditions, porous transport layer(PTL) surface passivation is one of the major issues of performance and durability of the PEMWE. Covering the PTL surface with a protective layer is an effective method to limit the passivation. However, the protective layer is usually made of expensive and precious metals. Using a less expensive metal or compound is an effective method to solve that problem. Iridium and its compound are candidates for replacement because of their high stability and cost-effectiveness. In this study, the ratio of IrO2 and TiO2 in the catalyst coated PTL was investigated to find out the optimum ratio through electrolysis performance and impedance analysis. 3 samples with different IrO2:TiO2 ratios (0:0, 4:1, 9:1) were prepared and analyzed. The impedance results provided the supporting information for the polarization results that a higher ratio of IrO2:TiO2 (9:1) showed better performance |
