The unique anisotropic physical properties of columnar DLCs have attracted considerable interest for their potential applications as electronic devices, such as FETs, LEDs, and PVCs. Uniaxially oriented and highly ordered columnar superstructure of alkyl-substituted metalloporphyrazine, CoS10, on a large area of substrate (3X3cm2) has been fabricated, simultaneously utilizing an applied magnetic field and the interaction of CoS10 with an OTS-functionalized substrate. When spin-coated CoS10 thin film on an OTS-functionalized silicon substrate is cooled from its isotropic phase to LC phase in the presence of magnetic field (1.0 T), the CoS10 forms uniaxially oriented and rectangularly packed ‘edge-on’ columnar superstructures with their columnar directors perpendicular to the applied magnetic field. This simple and straightforward alignment technique can be instrumental for practical applications of DLC systems including various organoelectronic devices. |
