Organic second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have been steadily studied for their potential applications in high-speed and broadband information technologies. High-performance NLO polymers were recently demonstrated by a facile and reliable Diels-Alder reaction for postfunctionalization and lattice hardening to improve NLO properties and thermal stability. Dendritic structure is considered as a very promising molecular topology for the next generation of highly efficient NLO materials and expected to meet the basic requirements of practical applications: large macroscopic optical nonlinearity, high physical and chemical stability, and good optical transparency. Here we present new NLO dendrimers by Diels-Alder reaction to generate well-defined nano-objects, minimize strong intermolecular electrostatic interactions, and improve poling efficiency and stability. |
