Reactive Glass bonding with Ceramic Layer by Aerosol Deposition |

Boning with glass frit is widely adapted to fabricate the multifunctional devices. The bonding strength is affected by the difference of thermal expansion coefficient, sample bonding area or length, and bonding temperature. In addition, bonding occurs through the chemical reaction between bonding media of glass frit and substrate. To lower and achive the strong bonding, we first fabricated the ceramic layer on substate using aerosol deposition method. The ceramic layer of PbO, which can induce the chemical reaction with glass frit, was adhered onto substrate. PbO AD layer reacted with the glass at the lower temperature than Tg of glass frit. Microstructure analysis showed that the intermediate layer disappeared during the bonding process due to a reaction with the glass frit. When a power mixture of TiO2/PbO was useed as an intermediate layer, TiO2 did not react with the glass frit and remained under the same heating conditions. Unreactive TiO2 contributed physically to the improvement of the bonding strength by supplying a large bonding interface area and active PbO provided a large bonding interface through a chemical reaction with the glass frit. |
