The performance of DMFC has problems such as high methanol crossover rate through the membrane. First, Mordenite (MOR) was used for methanol crossover reduction, and silane coupling reaction was performed using 3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane (MPTES). In addition, MPTES - MOR (M-MOR) and PTFE film are used as surface layer and support in the membrane, respectively. The MEA electrochemical analysis was conducted with a membrane without M-MOR (PTFE Nafion) and membrane with M-MOR at 2, 4, and 10 wt% (2, 4, and 10-M-MOR/PTFE Nafion). In the DMFC test, the maximum power density of 4-M-MOR/PTFE Nafion (89.5 mW cm-2) was 1.7 times higher than PTFE Nafion (60℃, 0.4V, 1M methanol). The performance of the 4-M-MOR / PTFE Nafion was 2.5 times higher than that of the PTFE Nafion. The M-MOR / PTFE Nafion membrane has a good effect on the electrochemical properties of MEA by reducing the methanol crossover in DMFC. |
