In this study, based on the characteristics of Zn metal good for oxidation and Cu metal good for reduction, a heterojunction redox-bonded composite semiconductor was manufactured by joining two metals and applied as a catalyst for hydrogen production. The shape of the catalyst was adjusted so that a lot of angular parts were formed in order to create many active sites on the catalyst surface, and Cu2O and ZnO particles were controlled in the shape of a cube and a starfish, respectively, during the bonding process. The bonded xCu2O/yZnO composite looked like a chrysanthemum flower. The photocurrent, PL, and IMVS results confirmed that the recombination between electrons and holes in the bonded xCu2O/yZnO particles was very slow and performed effective charge separation. As a result, the accumulated amount of hydrogen generation after 10 hours in the 2Cu2O/1ZnO bonding catalyst was 2089.5 micromol. |
