Pneumatic drying of particulate materials is a wide used process in chemical industries and food industries because it is suitable for heat sensitive, explosive, degradable or flammable materials. The process includes heat and mass transfer between the particles and the hot gas, and is characterized by co-current flow, particle sizes, residence times, and air temperatures. In the present study, a one-dimensional two-phase flow model was applied to the steady state flow of wet particles and the surrounding gas for the pneumatic drying. Numerical simulations for pneumatic drying of wet particles under different conditions were performed to obtain the velocity, temperature and moisture content profiles. The developed model can be used as a design tool for estimating the necessary length of a pneumatic dryer. |
