Biological Activities and Determination Sugar Compositionof Herbal Honey |

This study examined to the development of novel medicine for atopic dermatitis treatment using herbal honey harvested in the Jirisan (Korea). The contents of moisture and sugar composition of the herbal honey were investigated by refractometer and HPLC, respectively. The antibacterial and the antifungal activities of herbal honey were evaluated against 4 bacteria and 2 fungi. The herbal honey was effective against Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and Gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli.). The herbal honey was also used against mycelial growth and mycelial weight of pathogenic fungi Candida albicans and Trichosporon beigelli. The herbal honey showed good antifungal activity. Based on these results, it is possible to introduction of herbal honey into biomedical fields such as atopic dermatitis treatment. |
