We developed a supercapacitor consisting of ion gel electrolytes and microfiber electrodes constructed by electrospinning a structuring polymer mat and followed by spray coating PEDOT:PSS conducting polymer. The electrospun ion gels exhibit 1D structure, high ionic conductivity, and good mechanical flexibility. Moreover, the electrolyte fibers can be easily fabricated using simple electrospinning technique without complicated, multi-step processes required for general textile devices. Using the ion gel fibers, we designed the fabric supercapacitors has a sandwich structure (PEDOT:PSS/ion gel fibers/PEDOT:PSS). The resulting fabric devices showed Csp of 6.72 ± 0.8 mF/cm2 at a scan rate of 100 mV/s and it shows good cycling stability with 82.6 % specific capacitance retention after 1000 charging and discharging cycles. The device also exhibited capacitance retention of 71 % after 100 repeated mechanical bending cycles with bending radius of 6 cm. |
