Solution processed inverted organic solar cells with hybrid inorganic/organic cathode interlayer |

Solution processible CdS with a high electron mobility and a CPE were utilized as cathode interlayer on ITO to construct inverted solar cells based on a P3HT as the polymer donor and PCBM as the acceptor. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the inverted solar cells without the cathode interlayer (only ITO) was 0.46% due to poor VOC of 0.197 V and FF of 34.3%. Using a thin CPE layer as a cathode interlayer significantly improved JSC of 9.733 mA/cm2, VOC to 0.557 V and FF to 44.4%, giving the PCE of 2.41%. Combined solution processed CdS and CPE layers deposited on ITO substrate enhanced the PCE of 2.61% with VOC of 0.594 V, and FF of 52.4%. Characteristics of devices with a ZnO cathode interlayer were also compared. Our results suggest that hybrid inorganic/organic materials are promising candidates as a cathode interlayer in high efficiency inverted solar cells through the modification of interface contacts. |
