제목 Anisotropic Mechanical Actuation of Bicompartmental Nanofibers for Drug Delivery and Tissue Engineering
초록 Anisotropic mechanical actuation of Janus nano-architectures in response to environmental stimuli has been of great interest for biomedical applications as advanced actuators. In this study, thermally-responsive bicompartmental nanofibers with different chemical properties were produced through electrohydrodynamic (EHD) co-jetting with side by side needle geometry. Thermally-responsive compartment is composed of physically- or chemically-crosslinkable poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), PNIPAM copolymers while the other compartment is made up of polyethylene glycol dimethacrylates. Two distinct compartments were physically or chemically stabilized, and were swollen in buffers. The bicompartmental nanofibers showed different thermal actuation states depending on physical or chemical crosslinking of PNIPAM compartment. These bicompartmental nanofibers with anisotropic mechanical actuation in response to temperature have great potential for smart drug delivery and tissue engineering.
