Monodisperse polystyrene-block-polybutadiene (PS-b-PB) block copolymer (BCP) colloidal particles were successfully prepared by SPG membrane emulsification. Systematic study on membrane emulsification process parameters for producing oil-in-water emulsion was performed. Using SPG membranes with different pore size, uniform BCP particles with diameter ranging from 4um to 200nm was produced. Careful optimization of operation pressure and surfactant concentration showed particles with narrow distribution is produced when operation pressure (P) relative to critical pressure (Pc) was below 4.33, and sufficient amount of surfactant are present in continuous phase. Moreover, internal nanostructure of the particle was controllable from onion-like to coiled-cylinders by varying particle size and amount of added homopolystyrene (hPS). Finally, selective incorporation of oleylamine-capped Au nanoparticle (NP) into PB domain led to preparation of block copolymer/NP composite particle. |
