Polymer core/metal shell composite particles have many potential application in catalysis, biochemistry, electronics, and photonics. Here, we prepared polystyrene (PS)/silver (Ag) core-shell particles with uniform thickness through electroless plating using polydopamine and glucose. First, monodisperse PS microspheres were synthesized by dispersion polymerization. In addition, nonspherical particles with well-defined aspect ratio were prepared by uniaxial stretching of polyvinyl alcohol matrix film embedding the PS microspheres. Polydopamine and glucose were used as reducing agents for metal ions. The morphology and electrical conductivity of PS core/Ag shell composite particles were investigated to confirm the thickness uniformity of Ag plating and the conductivity enhancement of composite particles. As a result, Ag layer on spherical and non-spherical PS particles were successfully encapsulated, resulting in excellent electrical conductivity. |
