The permeation of oxygen barrier film prepared with aminoalkoxysilanes |

The flexible barrier films can be widely used in conventional packaging as substitute for glass and aluminum foil packaging, and proposed as encapsulation for novel products, like flexible organic light emitting devices (FOLED). The oxygen barrier films were formed by a sol-gel process using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APTEOS) and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMOS), which have been one of the widely applied silane coupling agents. The poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was used as a substrate. The effet of solvent, water ratio and coating times on oxygen permeability have been studied. The practical use of aminoalkoxysilanes is rather limited because of the lack of stability in humid atmosphere. Therefore, we prepared multilayer film with 3-glycidoxy-propyltrimethoxysilane(GPTMS) for modification into hydrophobic surface. Molecular structure and morpholgy of coated film were analyzed by Si NMR, FT-IR, contact angle and SEM. The coated films exhibited very higher barrier property than bare PET film. The oxygen permeability coefficient of coated films with APTEOS by casting five-times was mearsed to be 7.06ⅹ10-7 GPU, while the oxygen permeability coefficient of PET film is 1.16 ⅹ10-4 GPU. |
