Electrospinning is a technique which can manufacture nanofibers with various diameters and morphologies. It is important to control the fiber diameter for filter efficiency since the fiber diameter has significant influences on tortuosity and water treatment performance of electrospun nanofiber filters. In this study, polyethersulfone (PES) nanofibers were electrospun by adjusting process parameters including PES concentration, lithium chloride (LiCl) concentration, applied voltage, feed rate and tip-to-collector distance. Especially, LiCl decreased the fiber diameter sharply up to 178 nm. Individual and interaction effects between parameters on the fiber diameter were systematically considered through the statistical analysis, factorial design or analyses of variance (ANOVA). In conclusion, this work shows possibility of fabricating nanofibers with specific diameter, based on optimization of parameters. |
