To enhance specific capacitance of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), gold nanoaprticles (GNPs) were attached to thiol-funcionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (TF-MWNTs), which MWNTs were functionalized with 4-mercaptobenzoic acid in PPA/P2O5 to afford TF-MWNTs. GNP/TF-MWNT nanocomposites were simply prepared by dispersion of GNPs and TF-MWNTs in ethanol. The thiol group covalently linked onto the surface of MWNTs was expected to provide strong S-Au bonds and enhance the interaction between Au and MWNTs. The morphology of resultant nanocomposites was studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that GNPs were uniformly distributed on the surface of TF-MWNTs. EA, EDX, XRD, FT-IR, TGA were used to further characterize the nanocomposites. From the electrical study, the specific capacitance of TF-MWNTs and GNP/TF-MWNT nanocomposites were compared with cyclic voltammetry (CV). |
