Rapid Synthesis of Homogeneous Titania-silica Composite by Two step Method |

In this work, homogeneous titania-silica composite with desired properties for paper and paint industries was rapidly synthesized by the sol-gel method in a controlled manner. The first step of this rapid, versatile, and reproducible method involves generation of trimers of SiO2 after the rapid condensation of silicic acid monomers. Then at a suitable time, TiOCl2 was added in SiO2 trimers at 50°C (second step). The structure of the composite was characterized by FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR and nitrogen physisorption studies. The results show the homogeneous incorporation of titania in silica and the final product has high BET surface area (above 500 m2/g) and narrow pore size distribution. |
