The effect of Polypyrrole(PPy) incorporation in Nafion for ionic polymer-metal composite(IPMC) actuator |

In this study, we prepared IPMC based on modified Nafion membrane with PPy by oxidative polymerization.The incorporated PPy is expected to be located at the hydrophilic domain of Nafion membrane, giving enhanced actuation performance by redox process of PPy. The effect of PPy incorporation was observed with actuation performance by varied exchanged cations of the membrane to see whether the composite can actuate at conditions which IPMC fabricated with commercial Nafion can barely actuate. This result demonstrates that the synthesized PPy bound to sulfonate groups in Nafion is actuated, leading to synergistic performance of IPMC. |
