Synthesis and characterizations of polyphenanthrenylene derivatives with high Voc for organic solar cells |

Over the past decades, there have been considerable efforts toward the design and synthesis of low-band gap conjugated polymers for use as donor materials in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (OSCs) due to their lightweight, inexpensive, and flexible characteristics. Among other things, thiophene derivatives have shown high PCEs, especially in short circuit current and fill factor, due to their good electrical properties. However, they show limited open circuit voltage (Voc) due to their relatively high HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) level. Generally, poly(2,7-phenanthrenylene) derivatives have large band gap and deeper HOMO level compared to P3HT, one of the conventional thiophene derivatives, and it has chance to achieve higher Voc than that of P3HT. We synthesized four donor polymers containing phenanthrene units in their backbone to get improved Voc. We will present the material synthesis, characterization of polymers and their device performance in OSCs. |
