Organic neuromorphic devices and sensors that mimic the functions of chemical synapses and sensory perception in humans have received much attention. As sensors cannot solely satisfy the requirement of sensory perception systems owing to the lack of signal processing functions, recent studies have tried to expand their functionalities by integrating sensors with artificial synapses. Until now, most studies of artificial sensory synaptic system have focused on physical-signal-sensitive artificial synapses that respond to physical stimuli. Herein, inspired by hippocampal synapses, we designed a dual-gate organic synaptic transistor platform with a photoconductive polymer semiconductor, a ferroelectric insulator, and an extended gate electrode functionalized with boronic acid for simultaneous detection of neurotransmitter dopamine and light. This study opens new possibilities for the development of organic multi-sensory synaptic system to mimic complex biological system. |
