Viscoelastic Characteristics of Modulus-Variable Epoxy Composites Using Sn/In Particles |

A thermally-induced modulus variable composite system was developed incorporating Sn/In particles as a fusible metal in the epoxy matrix. The viscoelastic modulus variation of the developed composites was investigated with respect to time (or frequency) and temperature, which exhibited an additional drop of storage modulus stemming from the thermodynamic melting of the embedded Sn/In particles before the viscoelastic glass transition of the epoxy matrix. While the cured epoxy was in the glass state, the composite modulus quickly dropped down by 38.5% due to the Sn/In melting at 125℃, which could ensure the modulus-variable smart composite material. |
