Automotive cooling part was composed systematically of rubber hose, aluminum fitting, metal clamping and coolant solution. During operating, micro-cracks, scales and corrosion on the cooling system were formed, followed by leakage of coolant. In this study, these problematic phenomena have been investigated and analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA), pyrolysis-GC/MS. Afterward, an accelerated methodology has been developed, which can well simulate the micro-cracks, scales and corrosion formed under real operating condition of automobile. Analytical observations show that the chemical components of scales and corrosion mechanism generated in accelerated conditions are clearly identical, compared to those in real operating condition. |
