Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have the great advantages of low temperature fabrication and transparency, but also have disadvantages of the low power conversion efficiency (PCE). There have been many efforts to efficiently use incident light energy, such as introducing various functional layers. Among them, surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) induced field enhancement have been known to enhance optical absorption in the photoactive layer. However, transverse electric (TE) portion is more difficult to attract SPP than transverse magnetic (TM) polarization. In this study, OPVs were fabricated with introduction of 2D quasi-random pattern on the electron transporting layer (ETL) and photoactive layer. As a result, the optical absorption and energy conversion characteristics of OPVs exhibit improved in both TM and TE modes. The PCE of OPVs with 2D quasi-random patterns introduced in ETL and photoactive layers was improved through balanced TM/TE optical absorption. |
