In this study, industrial grade multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs, Nanocyl 7000) were incorporated in various polymers, such as polyamide 6, polyamide 11, polyamide 12, high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and polycarbonate, by simple melt mixing process. The main interest of this study is to obtain good electrical property which can further be applied as an electrostatic dissipation application. Another focus is to come up with a universal empirical equation which can simply, but also accurately explain the electrical property of various polymer/MWNT nanocomposites. The dispersion of MWNTs in polymer matrix showed strong correlations with the interaction between MWNTs and polymer matrix, the melt viscosity of the polymer, and shear stress provided during mixing procedure. In order to investigate the effect of each factor on the dispersion of MWNTs, various experimental methods, such as SEM, TEM, 4-point probe, DSC, TGA, DMTA, ARES, UTM, and XRD, have been used. |
