Recently, as the incidence of tumors and cancers increases, interest in embolization, which is a minimally invasive treatment method, is increasing among treatment methods. Currently, representative embolic agents include microspheres, coils, gelfoam, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). In this study, autologous thrombus was used as an embolic agent for catheter embolization in the blood vessels around the tumor. Compared to other embolic agents, autologous thrombus using blood coagulation mechanism was used to minimize the immune response. In addition, it can be manufactured by optimizing for the size of blood vessels. We use human fibrinogen, calcium ion, and ascorbic acid to make and control the size of blood clots. Thrombin breaks down fibrinogen into fibrin, forming a blood clot. Then, using clots, we demonstrated the possibility of embolization in the vascularized PDMS microchannel. This shows that embolization using thrombus, which has the characteristics of biocompatibility and intravascular decomposition, is possible without immune response. |
