Synthesis and Characterization of Organo-Lithium Salts with High Electrochemical and Thermal Stability for Aqueous Rechargeable Li-Ion batteries |

Li-ion batteries still cause safety, environmental and cost concerns, which mostly arise from the non-aqueous electrolytes. The use of aqueous alternatives is limited by their narrow electrochemical stability window (1.23 V), which sets an intrinsic limit on the practical voltage and energy output. In this research, two novel divalent aqueous electrolytes of lithium sulfonylbis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (LiSFSA) and lithium carbonylbis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (LiCFSA) were synthesized from the reaction with sulfamoyl fluoride (FSO2NH2), thionyl chloride (SOCl2), and sulfurisocyanatidic fluoride (FSO2NCO) for the development of aqueous rechargeable Li-ion batteries (AQLBs), which are the derivatives of Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI). 1M LiSFSA showed electrochemical window up to ~3.72 V with the formation of an electrode/electrolyte interphase. On the other hand, 1M LiCFSA and 1M LiFSI showed electrochemical stability up to 3.52 V and 2.22 V respectively. |
