제목 | Liquid Crystal Based Smart Polymer Printer via regulating chain reactions. |
초록 | Self-healing materials responding to external stimuli are particularly interesting due to their long-term stability and recovery ability, which have been potentially used in a variety of field. Special designs of polymers are the limitation for the conventional method which limits diverse applications. To overcome the limitation, here we show a simple and versatile strategy to access the self-healing properties via liquid crystals (LCs). We recently designed a Smart LCs system which trigger the escape of microdroplets that are elastically levitating within the LCs. By leveraging our recent work, we designed stimuli-responsive “polymer printer” that sense stimuli and then polymerize. Specifically, the polymer printer consists of two types of wells where the microdroplets containing monomer (e.g., alginate) and cross-linker (e.g., multivalent salt) are initially trapped in LCs. In response to target stimuli, the electric double layer helps the releasing of monomers and these monomers attract the cross-linker from the other wells. These releasing make the self-healing materials. This research has been supported by the POSCO Science Fellowship of POSCO TJ Park Foundation. |
