The stimuli-responsive colorimetric sensors are regarded as a promising research in various industrial and medical applications because of the simple, fast, and inexpensive visualization of external stimuli. Here, we report a thermoresponsive smart colorimetric patch based on the plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-decorated poly(isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) microgels. By optimizing the size and density of AuNPs on microgels, the hybrid colloids showed a strong and reversible peak-shift in plasmonic absorption more than 100 nm of wavelength due to the thermoresponsive plasmon resonance change from individual to coupled AuNPs. For the application, the AuNPs-decorated PNIPAM microgels were embedded in the bulk hydrogel matrix to fabricate flexible, attachable, and durable colorimetric patch. Moreover, the colorimetric sensor array was fabricated with finely tuned transition temperature of PNIPAM microgels, which ultimately can be utilized as a spatial temperature scanner. |
