Synthesis and Characterization of Nafion/Polyacrylamide Composite for Fuel Cells |

A Nafion/polyacrylamide(PAM) composite membrane was investigated as a high-proton exchange membrane. The extraordinary ability of the Nafion/PAM composite membrane to absorb a large quantity of aqueous solution is utilized to achieve a high phosphoric acid loading, resulting in high-proton conductivity membranes. The Nafion/PAM membrane also shows excellent acid retention and high humidity.. The surface morphologies and the cross-section of the resulting Nafion/PAM composite membrane was observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The improved thermal property of the prepared Nafion/polyacrylamide composite membrane was measured by thermogravimetirc analysis (TGA). These performance results paired with a low-cost synthesis approach demonstrate the new membrane can be used Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel cells. |
