We herein report the synthesis, characterization and photophysical properties of porphyrin photosensitizers that mimic the chemical structure of cell membrane phospholipids to enhance cell membrane permeability in PDT applications. To be specific, porphyrin photosensitizers have a triphenylphosphonium(TPP) as polar head group and two long alkyl(C18) chains as lipophilic tail group. Especially, TPP is known to be an almost non-toxic chemical that is selectively accumulated in mitochondria upon intracellular injection. The molecular structure was identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and 1H-NMR measurements. Optical and electrochemical properties were evaluated by UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence emission spectroscopies and cyclic voltammetry experiment. Finally, the reactive oxygen species(ROS) generation properties were analyzed using comparative molecules. |
