Electrochemical Properties of Carbon Coated Silicon Anode for Lithium Ion Battery |

The morphological modifications of nano-sized silicon powder are an important factor to mitigate the drastic decrease in cycling performances as an anode for lithium ion battery. Especially, the coating layers with carbon on the silicon anode material plays a key role in enhancing conductivity as well as reducing the volume expansion of silicon during Li alloying and dealloying process. The present work reports the special shapes of carbon coating on silicon and those electrochemical properties including rate and cycling performances. The cycling behavior of carbon coated silicon anodes are discussed in view of structural improvement by carbon coating. The morphological characteristics of nanostructure observed by transmission electron microscopy explain the increases in surface area and density of silicon, which lead the higher volumetric efficiency for charge and discharge capacity. |
