Effect of UV-treatment on the Wettability of SUS |

The effect of UV-treatment on the structural properties of the steel use stainless (SUS) as a function of the treatment time was investigated in regards to change in surface properties such as wettability and adhesion. Surface treatment by UV radiation was applied to modify wettability on the surface of SUS. Contact angle was used to determine the wettability on the surface of SUS. The results showed that UV radiation with wavelength of 254 nm effectively lowered the contact angle. In addition, contact angle was decreased as the treatment time was increased, which implied that wettability on the surface of SUS was increased. Adhesion between two SUS substrates after UV-treatment was evaluated by measuring the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) according to the ASTM D 1002. Tensile strength of the SUS joint was increased as wettability was increased. It was found that higher wettability of the SUS surface showed higher tensile strength of the joint. |
