The evaluation of healing response to osteoarthritic knee in rabbit by the TGF-β/LMC conjugates |

This study was investigated to evaluate the effect of TGF-β/chitosan conjucate for articular cartilage of the osteoarthritic knee and a validity of water-soluble chitosan as a carrier. The biologic effect of TGF-β/chitosan on osteoarthritic articular cartilage was compared with pure TGF-β. TGF-β/chitosan conjugate and pure TGF-β were injected to the intraarticular space of the osteoarthritic knee of the rabbit with trasected anterior cruciate ligament at 4th postoperative weeks and then articular cartilage and synovium were obtained at 9th postoperative weeks. TGF-β/chitosan conjugate and pure TGF-β group showed comparable result in gross findings. But in histological examination, TGF-β/chitosan conjugate group shows less severe osteoarthritic changes than pure TGF-β1 and control group. According to these findings, it was considered that TGF-β/chitosan conjugate seemed to have an positive effect on the osteoarthritis. |
