Modulation of 3D encapsulated hMSC behaviors in fibrous particle-loaded alginate hydrogel |

Three-dimensional (3D) network of hydrogels exhibits different microenvironment as compared to that in the natural extracellular matrix (ECM), fundamental difference is absence of fibrous anchorage sites such as the collagen. In this report, we established hybrid hydrogel containing fibrous particles that closely mimic the ECM. The RGD peptide-coupled FP (R-FP) has a wide range of length distribution, which was homogeneously dispersed in the hydrogel. The encapsulated human mesenchymal stem cells in the hydrogel could bind to the R-FP presenting remarkable spreading morphology, augmented viability and differentiation. These findings may elicit by the physical interaction between the cells and R-FP, providing structural and biological cues to the cells, and this strategy can simply converge into a variety of hydrogel systems. |
