Effect of liquid phase plasma irradiation in photocatalysis of ethanol solution for hydrogen production |

Although various light sources had been employed in the photocatalysis, it has been studied rarely about the photocatlysis using a liquid phase plasma (LPP) by irradiation into water directly. Hydrogen production from ethanol solution using the LPP has been studied on metal loaded nanocrystalline TiO2 photocatalysts. The effect of ethanol addition into water was also characterized to the hydrogen evolution on the photocatalytic decomposition from the ethanol solution. The NiO loaded TiO2 photocatalsyt exhibited a high evolution rate of hydrogen. The photocatalytic reaction using the LPP exhibited high photocatalytic ability for hydrogen evolution over the photocatalysts compared with that of water photocatalysis using UV light source. The hydrogen evolution was accelerated apparently by ethanol addition into water. It is caused that the hydrogen evolved from decomposition of ethanol is added to the hydrogen evolved from the photocatalytic cleavage of water. |
