Oxygen uptake measurement was used to assess wastewater characteristics and to monitor the performance of wastewater treatment process. The method was developed for the respirometric assessment of soluble and particulate COD components in wastewater. Oxygen uptake rate (OUR) curve, excluding the fraction associated with endogenous respiration, generated for a wastewater sample as the equivalent of its biodegradable COD components and is enabling direct determination of the soluble and total biodegradable COD. In this study, the method has been tested for dying wastewater and the results of assessment of the soluble and total biodegradable COD verified using another procedure with direct assessment of COD. |
