High Efficiency Solid-state Dye-sensitized Solar Cells Using Hierarchically Structured TiO2 |

Room temperature solid-state dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) fabricated using hierarchically structured TiO2 as a photoelectrode will be presented. The plastic crystal based solid-state electrolytes were prepared using the succinonitrile as a matrix material. The solid-state DSSCs were fabricated using TiO2 nanofibers (NF) and nanospheres (NS) that are prepared by electrostatic spinning (e-spin) and spray (e-spray) methods respectively. The resulting TiO2 photoanode layers using these facile methods contained hierarchical morphology with bimodal pore sizes. The performance of TiO2-NS and TiO2-NS based DSSCs were enhanced compared to the DSSCs prepared using the typical TiO2-NP layers. The power conversion efficiency of the TiO2-NF and TiO2-NS based solid-state DSSCs were over 2-fold higher (> 7 %) than that of TiO2-NP based solid-state DSSCs (~ 3%). |
