New polyimides (PIs) were prepared from a new diamine derived from imidazole, 3-(2-(4-aminophenyl)-4,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl)aniline, and various dianhydrides, such as PMDA, DSDA, ODPA, P6FDA, P3FDA and 6FDA. The new diamine was successfully synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution reaction. The PIs were soluble in common polar organic solvents. These imidazole-containing diamines have higher electron-donating properties due to the lone-pair electrons at nitrogen, which affords high hole-transport property. In addition, the imidazole ring is a useful n-type block with high electron affinity and good thermal stability. In case that CHDA dianhydride is used, charge transfer interactions has been effectively reduced, and exhibited highly fluorescence at longer wavelengths. |
