Molecular simulation of conjugated polymer for electrochromic window |

The design and synthesis of novel electrochromic polymers (ECPs) have been an area of intense interest since the properties of these materials can easily be tuned through rational design and modification of chemical structures. We recently reported on high contrast, fast-switching, and bi-stable electrochromic windows (ECWs) based on various poly(3,4-propylenedioxythiophene) derivatives (PRs). In order to improve these properties and to realize multi-color ECWs, theoretical studies were carried out. The energy levels and band gaps of PRs were estimated from experiments and simulation to provide a comprehensive understanding of the electronic structure, optical properties, and molecular structure, which will be discussed to achieve high energy-saving ECWs based on the PRs. |
