Nanoporous Block Copolymer Thin Films as Water Filtration Membranes |

The self-assembly of block copolymers (BCPs) can produce nanostructure with narrow pore-size distributions and well-ordered nanostructures, an advanced composite membranes. The fabrication of composite membranes with blends of polystyrene-block-poly(acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA) copolymer and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) homopolymers were used nanoporous thin films that aligned cylinder-forming block copolymer morphology. Nanopores were generated in the block copolymer thin film by a removal of PEO homopolymer process. The carboxylic acid groups inside the pores was functionalized the post-modification onto the surface of pores by chemical synthesis methods after membrane preparation. The composite membranes with porous nanostructure contain functional group of these pores which may contribute to membrane selective filtration. The practical value of these composite membranes is evaluated by measuring the pure water fluxes and selective permeability of the water properties. |
