Elastomeric polyurethane (PU) is one of versatile polymers for automotive parts, medical device, and sports goods as the physical properties of PU can be varied with wide range of raw materials and processing parameters. The amount of PU elastomer wastes is increasing these days and the recycling of the PU has become an issue. Glycolysis of PU waste generate depolymerized products which can be recycled to prepare PU elastomers again. However, the application of the depolymerized products is limited due to the high reactivity in the PU formation generally. Thus, effects of temperature on the glycolysis reaction were investigated in this paper to characterize the temperature dependent properties of the glycolysis products. It was found that the reactivity of the depolymerized products increased with increasing the glycolysis temperatures. Characteristics of the glycolysis products were studied from viewpoints of the chemical recycling of PU experimentally. |
