Composite films of PVA and MWNT have been prepared by casting from DMSO solution followed by coagulation in ethanol and drying. MWNT was dispersed in DMSO with the help of sonication and then PVA was added. PVA (DP=1,700, D.S.=99.5%) and MWNT were supplied by Kolon and Iljin, respectively. The films were drawn by 8 times at 160oC before testing mechanical properties. The loading of MWNT in PVA was 1~5 wt%. The tensile strength and initial modulus of the films were increased by ca. 50% at 3wt% loading compared to those of neat PVA film. The composite films were analyzed under SEM to observe nanotube dispersion. The polarized Raman spectroscopy was employed for identification and orientation of MWNT; and X-ray diffractometry was employed for orientation of PVA. Moreover, DSC was used to analyze the effect of MWNT on thermal properties of PVA. The electrical properties were also studied. |
