제목 Graphene modified with alcohols and their nanocomposites of shape memory polyurethane
초록 As a novel method to make hydroxyl groups on graphene and to reduce the defects of graphene simultaneously, graphene prepared by the thermal reduction of graphite oxide was modified by the reaction with methanol or 1-butanol utilizing aqueous HBF4 solution. Gravimetry, thermogravimetry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the alcohols reacted with the epoxide groups on graphene. The reinforcing effect by graphene, observed in tensile properties and shape memory behavior of polyurethane/graphene nanocomposites, was enhanced when the graphene was modified with methanol. However, the decreases of density and glass transition temperature of the shape memory nanocomposites were more evident with alcohol-modified graphenes. This showed that the increased hydroxyl group on graphene enhanced chemical bonding or physical interaction between graphene and matrix molecules, and consequently restricted the dense packing of matrix molecules.
